About the Role
Sundry Markets Limited, the organization behind Marketsquare, Nigeria's premier modern grocery retail chain, is looking for a customer-focused and highly organized Department Manager - Checkout. In this vital role across our multiple locations in Abuja, Lagos, Owerri, Benin, Onitsha, Awka, Asaba, Warri, Akure, and Mowe, you will be the guardian of the final impression we leave on our shoppers, ensuring seamless, friendly, and efficient checkout experiences.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and manage schedules for tills and checkout personnel to maintain optimal customer service standards and provide backup staffing as needed.
- Oversee cashiers and porters, ensuring excellent service through proper handling, packing, and carrying of customer goods.
- Maintain control over housekeeping duties, trolleys, baskets, and checkout drawers to foster a clean, customer-centric retail environment.
- Ensure accurate daily cash-ups, conduct regular spot checks on opening tills, and manage change requisitions.
- Assist customers proactively with price queries, merchandise questions, and loyalty card inquiries.
- Train, mentor, and motivate checkout staff to provide efficient service and handle special circumstances like complaints, returns, and exchanges professionally.
- Minimum of a B.Sc. or HND in any related discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in customer service operations or banking as a customer or teller service specialist.
- Must possess an NYSC discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificate.
- Strong leadership and people management skills with proven ability to train and motivate a retail team.
