About the Role
The Katsina State Government invites applications from suitably qualified and dynamic professionals for the position of Environmental Health Officer (GL 08). With an estimated population of over 9.3 million residents spanning urban and rural settlements across the West Sudanian and Sahelian savannas, maintaining high standards of public health and environmental sanitation is critical to our sustainable development. As an Environmental Health Officer, you will play a vital role in implementing public health policies, inspecting communities, and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations to safeguard the health of our citizens.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct routine inspections of residential, commercial, and public spaces to enforce environmental sanitation laws and hygiene standards.
- Monitor water sources, waste management systems, and public facilities to prevent the outbreak of preventable diseases.
- Educate local communities and businesses on best practices in waste disposal, food safety, and personal hygiene.
- Investigate public health nuisances, resolve sanitation complaints, and take appropriate legal or corrective actions.
- Collaborate with state agencies and healthcare workers during public health outreach and disease control campaigns.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, sanitation compliance, and environmental health data for state reporting.
- Possession of the West Africa Health Examination Board (WAHEB) certificate for Environmental Health Officers or an HND in Environmental Health Sciences from a recognized and accredited institution.
- Must possess a mandatory NYSC discharge or exemption certificate.
- Applicants must be indigenes of Katsina State, aged between 18 and 49 years.
- Must successfully pass the competitive merit-based screening test and subsequent interviews.
